Meeting opened 10:30pm Saturday 01/12/01

Present Shane Cubis - President
Craig Sedgwick - Secretary
Robert Stephenson - Public Officer

The following topics were discussed:

1. The DAANZ Rag - Chris Smoother has advised he is no longer able to
produce the Rag. Ken Sproat has agreed to take over the complete
production of the Rag once his role in WDC 2002 is completed. In the
interim, Shane Cubis and Craig Sedgwick will produce and despatch two
copies of the Rag, with expected mailing dates of February and May. We
will also look at producing an email copy for those that would prefer
that.

2. Bismark Cup - Dugal Ure (Bismark Cup committee member) gave the
committee a presentation and answered some questions regarding current
structure of the Cup and the possible effect of a VERY large
tournament (ie WDC) on scoring. From the discussion that followed the
executive have agreed on the following:
(a) - that a paragraph be added to the Bismark Cup page on the DAANZ
website outlining the intention of the Bismark Cup to promote
attendance at tournaments and to explain how the scoring system was
formulated. Our initial draft to explain how the winner is determined
is "consistently good play through-out the year".
(b) - that the maximum numbers of players at a tournament (as used in
the calculation of Bismark Cup points will be 50.
(c) - the divisor for minimum number of tournaments will now be set
at four - to allow for the change in the number of tournaments
eligible for Cup points down to seven (this is discussed in further
detail next).

3. Tournament attendance/Bismark Cup affiliation/Masterpoints
affiliation - the committee felt it was necessary to review the number
of affiliated tournaments for 2002, due to several considerations.
These included tournament attendance figures dropping for some
tournaments and the number of tournaments climbing over the last few
years. So for 2002 the following tournaments will be eligible for
DAANZ affiliation for Bismark Cup points and Masterpoints: Vic Champs,
Waikato, Nationals (WDC 2002), Auckland, Sydney, Wollongong (The Don),
NZ Champs. The QLD Champs and the ACT tournament will be eligible for
Masterpoints, as will any other tournament that seeks DAANZ
affiliation and meets the criteria. This will be reviewed yearly, with
a focus on limiting the number of affiliated tournaments so the
numbers at tournaments are not overly 'diluted', and with preference
going to those tournaments that are able to attract a good local
following (at least one and two boards of locals). We are looking
forward to discussing our decisions with the organisers in more
detail. Also please note that the decision to go from three
tournaments from four in NZ was taken by the NZ hobby prior to the
executive meeting, and we applaud their decision.

Meeting closed at 12:35am Sunday 02/12/01.
